When we launched our first DTF Station printer in 2022, our mission was clear: to address the widespread frustrations that were holding the industry back. Print shops everywhere were dealing with clogged print heads, inconsistent technical support, and unreliable machine performance. But the truth is, DTF printing isn’t just about the printer itself. Why Existing Inks Weren’t Good Enough

Over time, we cycled through three different manufacturers in search of consistency. We tested inks from China and the U.S., hoping to find the right balance. But while colors often looked acceptable, performance told a different story.

The biggest challenge wasn’t vibrancy. It was making the system reliable. Preventing nozzle clogs and extending print head lifespan became our top priority. Compatibility across Epson print heads made things even more complex, forcing our ink partners to purchase and test every printer model we supported.

After vetting three companies, it wasn’t until 2023 that we found true alignment with a South Korean supplier that shared our commitment to quality. That partnership marked the beginning of a new chapter.

The Turning Point: Building Our Own Ink

With the partnership in place, we started from scratch. The result was Color Prime DTF Ink, designed for universal compatibility with our printers. Early versions excelled in reliability and nozzle recovery, and for a moment, we thought we had found the answer.

But as we looked closer, we realized there was still more potential to unlock, especially in achieving richer, more vibrant colors. Reliability alone wasn’t enough for us. That pursuit of continuous improvement sparked two initiatives—Color Prime Chroma and the RGBO (Red, Green, Blue, Orange) project—to push color performance further than ever before.

The R&D Journey: From Frustration to Breakthrough

The RGBO project, launched in mid-2023, transformed the color vibrancy of 8-color systems. The results were immediate: our Prestige XL3 printers gained a new edge, and customer adoption surged. But a new challenge quickly emerged.

By July 2025, more than 10,000 of our 4-color printers were in use worldwide. These customers also deserved better color, but upgrading 4-color systems wasn’t simple. It meant flushing entire ink systems, revising ICC profiles, and adjusting marketing materials. Despite the disruption, we knew we had to move forward.

By late 2024, after six months of lab beta testing and another year of field testing, we achieved a breakthrough: an enhanced CMYK formula that delivered both reliability and vibrancy.

The Breakthrough: Introducing Color Prime Chroma

The result of 2 years of development and over a full year of field and laboratory testing, Color Prime Chroma CMYK combines premium raw materials with the proven strengths of our original Color Prime ink. The outcome speaks for itself:

• A 10% wider color gamut for richer, more vivid prints.
• Smoother gradients and tonal consistency across designs.
• Faster production speeds without compromising reliability.
• Superior wash resistance, nozzle recovery, and extended print head longevity.

Developing Chroma wasn’t easy. Ink formulation required meticulous optimization of subjective color perception, water-based ink volatility, viscosity demands, and print head waveform programming. But the effort was worth it because the difference is visible on every print.

And the journey isn’t over. Our upcoming Chroma White ink is set to improve coverage on sublimated fabrics like jerseys, all while maintaining the reliability that customers expect from us.
