Overview of Knock Me White Out

  1. Use Knock Me White Out to automatically remove white from a design.
  2. Allow the white of the shirt to represent white areas instead of printing white ink.
  3. Reduce ink usage and achieve a softer, lighter print feel.
  4. Apply this function primarily for DTF and white toner printers.

Example 1 – Solid White and Solid Color Designs

  1. Use Knock Me White Out for designs with solid white and solid color areas.
  2. Avoid gradients in this type of design.
  3. Benefit from significant white ink reduction.

Selecting a Base Print Mode

  1. Import the job into the printer queue.
  2. Go to the Q tab in the lower-right corner.
  3. Select a print mode intended for white shirts from the drop-down list.

Creating a Custom Print Mode with Knock Me White Out

  1. Open the Q menu.
  2. Select Properties.
  3. In the Q Properties dialog, expand the Color Layer.
  4. Click Processing Options.
  5. Enable Use Knock Me White Out.

Setting White Tolerance

  1. Adjust the tolerance slider to define what is considered white.
  2. Understand tolerance values: 0 equals pure white (RGB 255, 255, 255)
  3. Use a value of 5 for this example.
  4. Note that Knock Me White Out produces a hard edge result.
  • 5 equals slightly off-white (RGB 250, 250, 250)

Saving the New Print Mode

  1. Click Create Print Mode.
  2. Enter a descriptive name for the print mode.
  3. Click Save.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Confirm the new print mode appears in the Print Mode drop-down list.
  6. Click Yes when prompted to reset properties to print mode defaults.

Previewing Results with View Raw Data

  1. Right-click the job in the queue.
  2. Select Rip Only.
  3. Wait until the job status shows Job Spooled.
  4. Right-click the spooled job.
  5. Select View Raw Data.
  6. Click OK on the preview warning dialog if shown.

Viewing White Ink Output

  1. Open the colors and layers window using the left icon.
  2. Deselect CMYK planes.
  3. View where white ink will print.
  4. Change the background color or select View All Colors as Black.
  5. Confirm that white areas are knocked out and shirt white is used instead.

Example 2 – Designs with Gradients into White

  1. Identify designs with gradients fading into white.
  2. Understand that Knock Me White Out cannot produce white gradients.
  3. Note that white ink will stop abruptly, creating a hard edge.

Inspecting Gradient Issues in View Raw Data

  1. View Raw Data for the gradient design.
  2. Deselect CMYK layers.
  3. Leave the white layer active.
  4. Enable View All Colors as Black.
  5. Observe where white ink stops printing.
  6. Disable View All Colors as Black.
  7. Re-enable all layers.
  8. Change the substrate color to light gray.
  9. Observe the posterized transition between ink white and shirt white.

Recommended Alternative for Gradient Designs

  • Knock Me White Out is best for solid white designs
  • Not recommended for gradients into white
  • Produces hard edge white removal
  • Fluid Mask provides better control for complex designs
  1. Use the Fluid Mask plugin instead of Knock Me White Out.
  2. Right-click the job in the queue.
  3. Select Edit with Fluid Mask.
  4. Define delete areas in red and keep areas in green.
  5. Remove unwanted outer white while preserving internal white areas.
  6. Change the print mode to one without Knock Me White Out.
  • Example: 1440 x 720 White
