Overview and Preparation

  1. Confirm this procedure applies to Prestige XL3, XL4, and Aries 124 printers.
  2. Ensure the printer is powered on.
  3. Press the left arrow key once to disengage the capping station from the print head.
  4. Press and hold the left arrow key to move the carriage to the center of the bed.
  5. Confirm all media has been removed from the printer.
  6. Turn the printer power off.

Removing the Carriage Cover

  1. Use a Phillips screwdriver.
  2. Loosen two screws on each side of the printer carriage.
  3. Remove the carriage cover to access the encoder sensor.

Documenting Encoder Sensor Alignment

  1. Locate the encoder sensor mounted on the carriage.
  2. Take a clear photo of the sensor and bracket alignment.
  3. Pay close attention to the edges of the brackets for reference.
  4. Do not remove the two screws specifically noted in the video.

Removing the Encoder Sensor

  1. Carefully remove the two small screws securing the encoder sensor.
  2. Ensure the screws do not fall into the printer.
  3. Loosen the daughterboard by removing the required screws.
  4. Disconnect the encoder sensor cable from the daughterboard.
  5. Lift the daughterboard slightly to free the cable routed underneath.
  6. Remove the two screws securing the sensor to its bracket.
  7. Unplug the sensor cable.
  8. Route the cable out through the bracket and pathway under the daughterboard.
  9. Fully remove the encoder sensor from the printer.

Preparing and Routing the New Encoder Sensor

  1. Prepare the new encoder sensor.
  2. Disconnect the cable from the new sensor.
  3. Route the cable through the printer following the same path as the original.
  4. Route the cable through the sensor bracket.
  5. Plug the cable back into the new encoder sensor.
  6. Secure the sensor to the bracket using two screws.

Positioning the New Encoder Sensor

  1. Pull the cable upward as you position the sensor into its original location.
  2. Confirm the bracket orientation matches the reference photo.
  3. Align the edges of the bracket precisely.
  4. View the sensor from the side.
  5. Confirm the encoder strip is positioned inside the sensor opening.
  6. Ensure the encoder strip is not touching the sensor.
  7. Secure the bracket using two screws.

Verifying Encoder Strip Alignment

  1. Locate the three metal encoder strip guide brackets.
  2. Verify the encoder strip is centered in all three guides.
  3. Confirm the strip did not shift during installation.
  4. Perform a final check that the encoder strip is positioned within the encoder sensor.

Reconnecting the Daughterboard

  1. Route the top of the encoder sensor cable under the daughterboard.
  2. Pull the cable through so it exits at the back.
  3. Plug the cable back into the daughterboard.
  4. Secure the daughterboard using four screws.
  5. Confirm no cables contact the interior of the printer.

Power On and Gear Ratio Calibration

  1. Turn the printer back on.
  2. Connect your computer to the printer.
  3. Wait for the printer status to show idle.
  4. Open DTF Station Pilot software.
  5. Go to the Advanced tab.
  6. Enter the required password.
  7. Click Confirm.
  8. Verify the target move under gear ratio is set to 300.
  9. Click Check to calibrate the gear ratio.
  10. Allow the carriage to move during calibration.

Gear Ratio Verification

  1. Monitor the process for errors.
  2. If a pulse error occurs, recheck encoder sensor seating.
  3. If no error occurs, proceed.
  4. Go to File.
  5. Click Save.
  6. Click OK.

Initializing the Printer

  1. Go to the Operation tab.
  2. Click Initialize.
  3. Close the window.

Bidirectional Calibration

  1. Go to the Calibration tab.
  2. Select Bidirectional Calibration.
  3. Click Test Print.
  4. Allow the printer to print the calibration chart.

Reading the Calibration Chart

  1. Inspect the calibration chart.
  2. Focus on the zero bar and the bars to the left and right.
  3. Identify the bar where the top and bottom dark bars align with the lighter center bar.
  4. Use a phone camera and zoom if needed for clarity.

Adjusting Bidirectional Value

  1. If the straightest bar is already at zero, no adjustment is required.
  2. If another bar is straightest, note its position.
  3. Add that value to the current bidirectional value in Pilot software.
  4. Enter the new calculated value.
  5. Click Test Print again.
  6. Confirm the straightest bar is now at zero.
  7. Click Save.

Reassembly and Completion

  1. Reinstall the carriage cover.
  2. Secure the carriage cover with screws.
  3. Confirm normal printer operation.
