Media Advancement Troubleshooting

  1. Power off the printer.
  2. Leave the printer off for 5 minutes.
  3. Power the printer back on.
  4. Attempt to advance or retract media using the top and bottom arrow keys.
  5. If the issue persists, proceed to firmware reset.

Firmware Reset via DTF Station Pilot

  1. With the printer powered on, open DTF Station Pilot.
  2. Click the Advance menu.
  3. Enter the password.
  4. Select the Firmware tab.
  5. Click Import Firmware Configuration.
  6. Locate and select the firmware file with the.bfx file type.
  7. Check the required checkbox and click OK.
  8. Click OK again.
  9. Click Import Firmware Configuration Parameter.
  10. Locate and select the parameter file with the.xtf file type.
  11. Check the first three checkboxes.
  12. Click OK.
  13. Click OK again.
  14. Go to File and select Save.
  15. Click OK.
  16. Go to Operation and click Initialize.
  17. Test the pinch rollers again.

Motherboard Connection Check

  1. If the firmware reset does not resolve the issue, go to the back of the printer.
  2. Open the rear door.
  3. Locate the motherboard.
  4. Unplug the Y motor connector.
  5. Plug the Y motor connector back in.
  6. Power the printer back on.
  7. Test the pinch rollers again.
  8. If the issue persists, document findings and contact a DTF Station technician.

Pinch Rollers Not Moving Up or Down

  1. Locate the two pinch roller control buttons on the XL2.
  2. Press a button and observe whether the pinch rollers move up or down.
  3. If no movement occurs, proceed with the following troubleshooting steps.

Power Supply Inspection

What you need

  • Leave the printer powered off when not in use.
  • Avoid using the emergency stop unnecessarily, as it may cause power supply issues.
  1. Inspect the power supply for a blue indicator light.
  2. If no blue light is present: Power off the printer.
  3. If a steady blue light returns: Test the pinch rollers.
  • Wait 5 minutes.
  • Power the printer back on.
  • Check for a steady blue light.
  • Continue printer operation if functioning normally.

Power Supply Fault Indications

  1. If the blue light is blinking: This indicates a malfunction with a component connected to the PCL board.
  2. Document the condition.
  3. Contact a DTF Station technician for guided inspection of connections.

PCL Board Light Diagnostics

  1. Locate the PCL board on the side of the printer.
  2. Identify the three indicator lights on the PCL board.
  3. Press the pinch roller button.
  4. Observe the left two lights: The active light should alternate between positions with each press.
  5. If one light does not turn on, the issue is related to a sensor.

Sensor Identification

  1. Identify the two pinch roller sensors: Top position sensor.
  2. Open the side panel for direct visibility of the PCL board.
  3. Look through the rear slit of the printer to locate both sensors.
  4. While watching the PCL board lights, trigger the top sensor using a screwdriver.
  5. Observe whether the corresponding light turns on and off.
  6. Repeat the process for the bottom sensor.
  7. The sensor that does not trigger the light is the faulty sensor.
  8. Record findings and notify your technician.
  • Bottom position sensor.

Third PCL Light and Roller Button Test

  1. Press a pinch roller button.
  2. Observe the third PCL board light.
  3. Confirm the light flashes briefly each time the button is pressed.
  4. If the light does not flash: Press the other pinch roller button.
  5. If the light flashes with one button but not the other: The non-responsive button is faulty.
  6. If neither button triggers the light: The PCL board may need replacement.
  7. Document results and contact your technician.

Relay Inspection

  1. Locate the relay beneath the PCL board.
  2. Press the pinch roller button.
  3. Observe whether the relay green light turns on and off.
  4. If the relay does not light up: The relay needs replacement.
  5. Record findings and contact your technician.

Replacing the Top Sensor

  1. Remove four screws from the top lid of the printer.
  2. Fully open the top lid.
  3. Locate the interior backside panel on the left.
  4. Remove the four screws securing the panel.
  5. Carefully remove the panel.
  6. Locate the top sensor bracket.
  7. Remove the two screws securing the bracket.
  8. Carefully pull out the bracket.
  9. Take a photo of the cable connections.
  10. Remove any glue securing the cables if present.
  11. Remove the two small screws securing the sensor to the bracket.
  12. Install the new sensor using the same two screws.
  13. Reconnect cables using the photo as reference.
  14. Reinstall the bracket and secure it with two screws.
  15. Reinstall the panel and secure it with four screws.

Replacing the Bottom Sensor

  1. Remove four screws from the top lid of the printer.
  2. Fully open the top lid.
  3. Open the front lid.
  4. Remove the reflective panel by: Removing three top screws.
  5. Carefully remove the panel without bending it.
  6. Locate the bottom sensor on the back wall.
  7. Remove the two screws securing the bracket.
  8. Take a photo of the cable connections.
  9. Remove glue if present and disconnect the cables.
  10. Remove the two small screws securing the sensor.
  11. Install the new sensor using the photo as reference.
  12. Reconnect the cables.
  13. Reinstall the bracket and secure it with two screws.
  14. Reinstall the panel and secure it with all five screws.
  • Removing two bottom screws.

Replacing the Power Supply

  1. Locate the power supply.
  2. Remove the two top screws completely.
  3. Loosen the bottom screw.
  4. Lift the power supply upward to remove it.
  5. Take a photo of all cable connections.
  6. Write down all cable label information.
  7. Loosen each terminal screw to remove the U-shaped connectors.
  8. Install the new power supply.
  9. Reconnect cables using notes and photos as reference.
  10. Tighten terminal screws.
  11. Slide the power supply downward to engage the bottom screw.
  12. Install and tighten the top two screws.
  13. Tighten the bottom screw.

Replacing the PCL Board

  1. Remove the side panel by loosening hinge screws while supporting the panel.
  2. Take a photo of the PCL board and cable layout.
  3. Write down cable locations using board labels.
  4. Remove the four screws securing the PCL board.
  5. Loosen terminal screws and remove all cables.
  6. Install the new PCL board.
  7. Reconnect all cables according to notes and photos.
  8. Position the board and loosely install all four screws.
  9. Tighten all screws once aligned.

Replacing the Relay

  1. Locate the relay beneath the PCL board.
  2. Carefully spread the two metal retaining prongs.
  3. Pull the relay out.
  4. Insert the new relay.
  5. Ensure prongs are not bent or damaged.
  6. Close the prongs to secure the relay.
