Overview and Symptoms

What you need

  • Carriage slams into right interior wall
  • Impact Stop warning on control panel
  • Audible beeping
  • Issue occurs during docking to capping station
  1. Power on the Prestige R1 and observe the carriage behavior.
  2. Identify the carriage slamming into the right side of the printer.
  3. Confirm the Impact Stop warning appears on the control panel with beeping.
  4. Note whether the issue occurs after a nozzle check, after a print, or both.

What you need

  • Perform a gear check to recalibrate carriage position
  • Lower print speed to reduce carriage momentum
  • Adjust nozzle check start position if issue only occurs after nozzle check

Step 1 – Repair Head Strike Sensor Guard

  1. Turn the printer off.
  2. Rotate the capping station knob counterclockwise until the capping station lowers.
  3. Hold the knob in place.
  4. Push the carriage to the center of the printer bed.
  5. Locate the head strike sensor and head strike sensor guard.
  6. Loosen the two screws securing the head strike sensor guard.
  7. Slide the guard upward and remove it.
  8. Inspect the guard for bending.
  9. If bent, carefully bend the guard back to its proper shape.
  10. Reinstall the guard and tighten the two screws.

What you need

  • Guard is not pressing against the head strike sensor
  • A visible gap exists between the guard and the sensor
  • Guard only contacts the sensor when hitting an obstruction

Head Strike Sensor Guard Height Adjustment

  1. Inspect the height of the sensor guard relative to the printer bed and media guides.
  2. If the guard is too low, adjust it upward.
  3. Place a quarter flat under the guard as a height reference.
  4. Adjust the guard until the correct clearance is achieved.
  5. Ensure visible space remains at the bottom of the guard.

Test After Guard Repair

  1. Turn the printer back on.
  2. Verify the carriage docks onto the capping station without alarms.
  3. Open DTF Station Pilot.
  4. Locate the anti-collision window.
  5. Check the anti-collision checkbox.
  6. Click Release.
  7. Click OK and close the window.

Step 2 – Gear Check (X Motor Recalibration)

  1. Open DTF Station Pilot.
  2. Go to Advance.
  3. Enter password 1111.
  4. Click Confirm.
  5. Locate Gear Ratio settings.
  6. Find Target Move.
  7. Change the value to 100.
  8. Click Check.
  9. Go to File and click Save.
  10. Click OK.
  11. Go to Operation and click Initialize.
  12. Turn the printer back on and test.

Step 3 – Lower Print Speed

What you need

  • Lower speeds only enough to prevent carriage slamming
  • Be aware lower speeds will slow printing output
  1. Open the Advanced menu in DTF Station Pilot.
  2. Locate Print Speed Mid.
  3. Locate Print Speed Fast.
  4. Reduce both values by 5 percent.
  5. Go to File and click Save.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Go to Operation and click Initialize.
  8. Turn the printer on and test.
  9. Continue lowering speeds in 5 percent increments if needed.

Step 4 – Adjust Nozzle Check Start Position

What you need

  • Nozzle check pattern shifts left
  • Increased distance allows carriage to decelerate before docking
  • Value cannot be saved and must be reset each time
  1. Open DTF Station Pilot.
  2. Go to Nozzle Check.
  3. Locate Print Position X Edge.
  4. Verify the default value is 45 mm.
  5. Increase the X Edge value to 60 mm.
  6. Click Print to perform a nozzle check.
  7. Observe whether the carriage still slams after the pattern prints.
