Overview and Error Description

What you need

  • Printer powers on
  • Carriage does not move
  • Grinding noise during initialization
  • Error code 4000 shown in DTF Station Pilot
  1. Turn the printer on and observe the startup behavior.
  2. Confirm the printer begins initialization, the carriage does not move, and a grinding sound is present.
  3. Open DTF Station Pilot and check the error code.
  4. Verify the error code displayed is 4000.

What you need

  • Firmware issue
  • Capping station sensor issue
  • Capping station mechanical issue
  • Motherboard issue

Step 1 – Check Firmware Version

  1. Open DTF Station Pilot.
  2. Go to Advance.
  3. Click Firmware Version.
  4. Take a photo or screenshot of the firmware version.
  5. Send the image to your technician.
  6. Follow technician instructions if a firmware update is required.
  7. If the issue persists, proceed to the next step.

Step 2 – Firmware Reset

  1. Open DTF Station Pilot.
  2. Click Advance.
  3. Enter the required password and click Confirm.
  4. Go to Firmware.

Firmware Backup Warning

What you need

  • If no previous firmware backup exists, download the default firmware from the link in the video description.
  • Default firmware will reset all printer settings.

Backing Up Current Settings (If Using Default Firmware)

  1. Before entering the advanced menu, go to the Calibration tab.
  2. Use the side navigation bar to locate all calibration settings.
  3. Take pictures of all calibration settings.
  4. Return to the Advanced menu.
  5. Go to the Inkstack tab.
  6. Take pictures of all Inkstack settings.
  7. Close the window.

Factory Mode Access

  1. Click Advance on the keyboard.
  2. Press and hold Control + F12.
  3. Confirm switches to Factory Mode.
  4. Enter password 22 222.
  5. Go to the Boot Initialization tab.
  6. Take a picture of all settings for later restoration.

Import Firmware (With Backup Available)

  1. Click Import Firmware Configuration.
  2. Locate the firmware file with file type BSFX.
  3. Click Open.
  4. Check the checkbox and click OK.
  5. Click OK again.
  6. Import the firmware configuration parameter.
  7. Locate the file with file type XTFX.
  8. Click Open.
  9. Check the first three checkboxes.
  10. Click OK.
  11. Click OK again.
  12. Go to File and click Save.
  13. Click OK.
  14. Go to Operation.
  15. Click Initialize to save all settings.

Step 3 – Physical Component Check

What you need

  • If capping station rises but carriage does not move, suspect capping station sensor
  1. Turn the printer off.
  2. Rotate the knob to lower the capping station.
  3. Ensure the capping station is low enough so the wiper blade does not contact the print head surface or head strike sensor.
  4. Manually push the carriage to the center of the bed.
  5. Turn the printer back on.

Step 4 – Test the Capping Station Sensor

What you need

  • If carriage still does not move and capping station rises, continue to sensor swap test
  1. Turn the printer off.
  2. Go to the side of the printer.
  3. Reseat the capping station sensor cable.
  4. Inspect connector pins for residue, bends, or damage.
  5. Clean residue with a lint-free cloth and rubbing alcohol if needed.
  6. Reconnect the cable securely.
  7. Go to the back of the printer.
  8. Reseat the capping station sensor cable at the motherboard.
  9. Turn the printer back on.

Step 4 Continued – Sensor Swap Test

What you need

  • If capping station lowers and carriage moves slightly left then stops, sensors are confirmed faulty
  • If behavior does not change, suspect sensor cable or motherboard
  1. Turn the printer off.
  2. Remove the screw securing the capping station sensor.
  3. Unplug the capping station sensor cable.
  4. Remove the screw securing the carriage sensor.
  5. Unplug the carriage sensor cable.
  6. Install the carriage sensor into the capping station position.
  7. Plug in the capping station sensor cable.
  8. Secure the sensor with the screw.
  9. Install the capping station sensor into the carriage sensor position.
  10. Plug in the cable.
  11. Secure the sensor with the screw.
  12. Turn the printer on.

Decision Path After Sensor Swap

What you need

  • If sensors are confirmed faulty, proceed to Step 5
  • If sensors are not faulty, replace sensor cable first
  • If cable replacement does not fix the issue, replace the motherboard

Step 5 – Replace Capping Station Sensor

  1. Turn the printer off.
  2. Remove the screw securing the capping station sensor.
  3. Unplug the sensor cable.
  4. Plug the cable into the replacement sensor.
  5. Secure the replacement sensor with the screw.
  6. Turn the printer on to test.

Step 6 – Replace Sensor Cable

  1. Open the back panel to access the motherboard.
  2. Remove the back panel by removing all eight screws.
  3. Unplug the cable from the capping station sensor.
  4. Locate and unplug the corresponding cable from the motherboard.
  5. Move the cable back and forth to identify its routing path.
  6. Pull the cable out through the bottom opening.
  7. Shift other cables and ink tubes as needed to free the cable.
  8. Carefully guide the cable out from the motherboard side.
  9. Take the replacement cable.
  10. Identify the sensor-side connector and motherboard-side connector.
  11. Guide the motherboard-side connector through the side opening.
  12. Pull it through slowly until accessible.
  13. Guide the cable through the bottom opening toward the capping station.
  14. Plug both ends of the cable into the sensor and motherboard.
