Purpose & Preparation

OBJECTIVE IMPORTANT

  • Replace a faulty color damper
  • Compare nozzle check results before and after replacement
  • Always capture a baseline nozzle check before replacing any damper

Step 1 – Perform Fill Ink (Baseline)

  1. Open the front cover.
  2. Bypass the front cover sensor using a metal object (example: drill bit).
  3. On the control panel: Press Menu
  4. Run fill ink for 30 seconds.
  5. Press Cancel when time is up.
  • Select Head Maintenance
  • Select Fill Ink
  • Select Two Head
  • Start timing only once ink begins flowing into the waste tank.

Step 2 – Perform Head Cleanings

  1. Press Cleaning on the top-right of the control panel.
  2. Perform two head cleanings back-to-back.

Step 3 – Print Baseline Nozzle Check

  1. Press Menu.
  2. Select Head Maintenance.
  3. Select Head Status.
  4. Print the nozzle check.
  5. Save this nozzle check for later comparison.

Step 4 – Remove Media

  1. Lift the pinch roller lever.
  2. Roll the media back up.
  3. Push the lever back down.

Step 5 – Move Carriage & Power Off

  1. Open the top lid.
  2. Press the Left Arrow once to undock the carriage.
  3. Press and hold the Left Arrow to move the carriage to the center.
  4. Press the Emergency Stop button to power off the printer.

Step 6 – Remove Covers

  1. Loosen screws on both sides of: Printer carriage cover
  2. Remove both covers.
  • Daughterboard cover
  • Screws do not need to be fully removed.

Step 7 – Prepare for Damper Removal

  1. Clamp all white ink lines.
  2. Place paper towels next to the carriage to catch ink.
  3. Remove the diverter by taking out one screw from each side.
  4. Remove all white dampers and place them on the paper towel.

Step 8 – Remove the Faulty Color Damper

  1. Identify the color damper to replace (example: Yellow).
  2. Clamp the corresponding color ink line.
  3. Remove the damper from the carriage. TUBE REMOVAL OPTIONS
  • Hold only the outer plastic frame.
  • Never press the soft side of the damper.
  • Soft tube: Pull tube straight off the damper.
  • Stiff tube: Cut the tube straight just above the damper nozzle using scissors.

Step 9 – Install & Prime the New Damper

  1. Push the ink tube onto the new damper nozzle until fully seated.
  2. Release the tube clamp.
  3. Insert a syringe into the bottom of the damper.
  4. Slowly pull ink to prime the damper.
  5. Stop once ink reaches the syringe with no bubbles. SIGNS OF A BAD NEW DAMPER
  • Ink leaks from the bottom within 5 seconds.
  • Ink flows backward into the damper after releasing syringe pressure.
  • Ink does not flow or excessive bubbles appear.

Step 10 – Reinstall Dampers & Diverter

  1. Install the new color damper back into the carriage.
  2. Reinstall all white dampers.
  3. Secure the diverter using the two screws.
  4. Release all white ink line clamps.

Step 11 – Reinstall Covers & Power On

  1. Reinstall the printer carriage cover and tighten screws.
  2. Reinstall the daughterboard cover and tighten screws.
  3. Release the Emergency Stop button.
  4. Allow the carriage to dock back onto the capping station.

Step 12 – Reload Media

  1. Feed media from the back under the tension rod.
  2. Pull media through the front.
  3. Create tension by pulling from both sides.
  4. Lock the pinch roller lever.
  5. Press the Down Arrow to advance media slightly.
  6. Set media guides.

Step 13 – Final Fill Ink & Cleaning

  1. Bypass the front cover sensor again.
  2. On the control panel: Menu → Head Maintenance → Fill Ink → Two Head
  3. Run fill ink for 30 seconds (start timing once ink flows).
  4. Press Cancel.
  5. Perform two head cleanings.

Step 14 – Final Nozzle Check & Evaluation

  1. Print another nozzle check: Menu → Head Maintenance → Head Status
  2. Compare this nozzle check to the baseline. RESULTS
  • Improvement: Damper replacement successful.
  • No improvement: Contact DTF Station Tech Support.
