Overview and Required Items

What you need

  • Cleaning solution
  • Syringe
  • Cleaning swabs
  • Tape / print head lock (for front cover sensor)

Step 0 – Prepare the Printer

  1. Open the front panel.
  2. If your printer has a front-cover sensor, cover it with a print head lock and tape so the printer thinks the cover is closed.
  3. Leave the front panel open for access.

Step 1 – Initial Nozzle Check

  1. Press Menu.
  2. Navigate to Head Maintain.
  3. Select Head Status.
  4. Run a nozzle check.
  5. Identify which head is affected: Left Head = Color (CMYK)
  • Right Head = White
  • Both = Color + White

Step 2 – Fill Ink (First-Level Fix)

  1. Press Menu.
  2. Select Fill Ink.
  3. Choose the affected head: Right Head for White
  4. Run Fill Ink for 30 seconds.
  5. Press Cancel.
  • Left Head for Color
  • Two Head for both
  • Start timing once ink visibly flows into the waste bottle.

Step 3 – Clean Wiper Blade

  1. Press the Left Arrow key to move the carriage away.
  2. Expose the wiper blade.
  3. Clean the wiper blade using a cleaning swab soaked in cleaning solution.
  4. Do NOT use a lint-free cloth.
  5. Press Enter to dock the carriage.

Step 4 – Perform Head Cleanings

  1. Press the Cleaning button.
  2. Perform two head cleanings back to back.

Step 5 – Second Nozzle Check

  1. Advance the film.
  2. Press Menu.
  3. Go to Head Maintain → Head Status.
  4. Run another nozzle check.
  5. Compare with the previous result.
  6. If not 100%, proceed to Wet Capping.

Step 6 – Wet Capping Procedure

  1. Warm cleaning solution for ~15 seconds in a microwave.
  2. Press the Left Arrow to move the carriage away.
  3. Using a syringe, pour cleaning solution into the affected capping station.
  4. Do not overfill.
  5. Press Enter to seat the head and seal the cap.
  6. Let the cleaning solution sit for 15 minutes.

Step 7 – Pull Ink from the Pump

  1. Open the right-side panel.
  2. Identify the pump corresponding to the affected head.
  3. Twist and remove the pump.
  4. Identify the tube going to the capping station (do NOT pull from the waste tube).
  5. Disconnect the tube leading to the capping station.
  6. Attach syringe and pull with strong pressure.
  7. Dump contents into the waste container.
  8. Repeat the pull one more time: First pull removes air
  9. Reconnect the tube and reinstall the pump.
  10. If both heads were wet capped, repeat for the second pump.
  11. Do NOT pull from the circulation pump.
  • Second pull clears clogs

Step 8 – Post Wet-Cap Cleaning

  1. Perform 2–3 head cleanings on the affected head.
  2. Run another nozzle check.
  3. If improved but not perfect, repeat wet capping once more.
  4. If no improvement, proceed to mechanical checks.

Step 11 – Verify Wiper Blade Contact

  1. Open the capping station compartment.
  2. Watch the wiper blade wipe the print head at eye level.
  3. Confirm even contact across the head.
  4. If slanted, manually straighten the blade (wear gloves).
  5. If height is incorrect, adjust wiper blade height in Hosonsoft.

Step 12 – Verify Capping Station Height

  1. Press Enter and observe the capping station movement.
  2. Confirm it reaches and seals against the print head.
  3. If it does not reach the head, adjust capping station height in Hosonsoft.

Step 13 – Verify Capping Station Alignment

  1. Observe whether the cap is centered under the print head.
  2. If misaligned, adjust home position using the Home Position adjustment guide.

Step 14 – Damper Testing (Final-Level Fix)

  1. Close the front panel.
  2. Remove the two top screws.
  3. Open the lid fully.
  4. Press Left Arrow to move carriage to center.
  5. Loosen four screws on each side of the carriage.
  6. Remove top and bottom carriage covers.
  7. Turn off the printer.
  8. Identify which dampers to test (White or Color).
  9. Remove damper by gripping the side (never the belly).
  10. Hold damper downward: If ink leaks → bad damper.
  11. Hold damper upright and pull ink with syringe.
  12. Good damper signs: Steady ink flow
  13. Bad damper signs: Ink flows backward
  14. Reinstall good dampers carefully.
  15. Note any bad dampers for replacement.
  • No ink pulled
  • Bubbles
  • Loss of pressure

Step 15 – Reassembly

  1. Reinstall bottom carriage cover.
  2. Reinstall top carriage cover.
  3. Tighten four screws per side.
  4. Turn printer on.
  5. Allow carriage to return home.
  6. Reinstall and secure the front panel screws.

Final Verification

  2. Perform a wet cap if needed.
  3. Run two head cleanings.
  4. Confirm nozzle check quality.
