Overview and When to Use This Guide

  1. Confirm the printer is producing a poor nozzle check with full channels missing.
  2. Verify all ink-related troubleshooting steps have already been completed.
  3. Proceed only if ink supply, dampers, and ink circulation have been ruled out.

Step 1 – Inspect Carriage Ribbon Cables (Front)

What you need

  • Ribbon cable teeth are intact
  • No residue on contact points
  • No visible damage along the cable
  • If damage is found, notify a DTF Station technician
  1. Turn the printer off.
  2. Open the front cover.
  3. Open the bottom panel to expose the capping station knob.
  4. Rotate and hold the knob counterclockwise.
  5. With your free hand, move the carriage to the center of the printer bed.
  6. Using a Phillips screwdriver, loosen the three screws on the carriage cover.
  7. Loosen the two screws on the right side of the carriage cover.
  8. Completely remove the third screw on the right side.
  9. Remove the carriage cover.
  10. Locate the first ribbon cable.
  11. Using two hands, grab both sides of the ribbon cable.
  12. Pull straight upward with even pressure to unplug the cable.
  13. Do not wiggle the cable during removal.
  14. Inspect the cable teeth for damage or residue.
  15. Inspect the full length of the ribbon cable for damage.
  16. Repeat steps 10–15 for the second ribbon cable.

What you need

  • Never touch metal contact points with bare hands
  • Wear gloves when handling ribbon cables
  • Natural oils can damage contact points

Reinstall Carriage Ribbon Cables

What you need

  • Blue tape remains in place for structural support
  • All cables are fully seated
  • No cables are bent or pinched
  1. Align the ribbon cable teeth with the port.
  2. Press straight down with even pressure across the width of the cable.
  3. Ensure the cable is fully seated.
  4. Repeat for the second ribbon cable.
  5. Using the same method, inspect the third ribbon cable.
  6. Inspect the fourth ribbon cable.
  7. If ink residue is present, clean with 99% isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth.
  8. Inspect all additional carriage cables.
  9. Reinstall all cables using the same straight-down technique.

Nozzle Check Test After Front Cable Inspection

  1. Leave the carriage cover off.
  2. Verify no cables can contact the printer frame during movement.
  3. Turn the printer on.
  4. On the control panel, press Menu.
  5. Go to Head Maintenance.
  6. Select Head Status to perform a nozzle check.
  7. If the nozzle check is still poor, proceed to the next step.

Step 2 – Inspect Carriage Board Cables (Front)

What you need

  • All pins are present and straight
  • No ink residue in connectors
  • Cables fully seated
  1. Turn the printer off.
  2. Move the carriage to the center of the printer bed.
  3. Locate the four cables connected to the carriage board.
  4. Remove the first cable.
  5. Inspect the connector pins for damage or missing pins.
  6. Check for ink buildup inside the connector.
  7. Clean ink residue with isopropyl alcohol if present.
  8. Repeat steps 4–7 for the remaining three cables.
  9. Reinstall all four cables securely.
  10. Turn the printer on.
  11. Perform a nozzle check.

Step 3 – Inspect Rear Adapter and Ribbon Cables

What you need

  • Ribbon cables are undamaged
  • Adapter is fully seated
  • Bracket is securely fastened
  1. Turn the printer off.
  2. Go to the back of the printer.
  3. Open the two rear panels.
  4. Remove the two screws securing the adapter bracket.
  5. Remove the bracket.
  6. Carefully pull the adapter straight out.
  7. Remove the first ribbon cable using even upward pressure.
  8. Inspect the ribbon cable for damage.
  9. Repeat for the second ribbon cable.
  10. Reseat both ribbon cables using even downward pressure.
  11. Push the adapter straight back in without wiggling.
  12. Reinstall the bracket and secure with two screws.
  13. Turn the printer on.
  14. Perform a nozzle check.

Technician Escalation Before Board Replacement

What you need

  • If nozzle check is still not resolved, contact a DTF Station technician
  • Technician may advise replacing the carriage board

Step 4 – Replace Carriage Board

  1. Turn the printer off.
  2. Move the carriage to the center of the printer bed.
  3. Take a clear photo of the carriage board to document cable placement.
  4. Carefully remove all cables from the carriage board.
  5. Remove the four screws securing the carriage board.
  6. Remove the carriage board.
  7. Position the new carriage board.
  8. Secure it using the four screws.
  9. Using the reference photo, reconnect all cables to the correct ports.
  10. Turn the printer on.
  11. Perform a nozzle check.

Step 5 – Reassemble and Final Docking

  1. Reinstall the carriage cover.
  2. Secure the cover with screws on both sides.
  3. Close both rear panels.
  4. Turn the printer on.
  5. Allow the carriage to dock onto the capping station.
  6. Turn the printer back off.
