What you need
- This guide explains how to troubleshoot, test, and replace dampers on the Prestige R1 DTF printer
- Remove the film from the printer bed
- Move the print head carriage to the center
- Turn off the printer power

- Gently wiggle each damper out from left to right
- Hold the damper by the outer plastic only

- Dampers regulate ink flow, filter contaminants, and eliminate air bubbles before ink reaches the print head
- Faulty dampers can cause inconsistent spraying, missing nozzles, or banding
- Do not test dampers frequently, as repeated removal causes wear
- Test dampers only when symptoms persist after standard maintenance
- Always rule out other causes before replacing dampers
- Sudden loss of nozzles in one channel
- Banding that appears during printing
- One color channel completely missing while others print normally
- Multiple head cleanings do not improve nozzle patterns
- Nozzle patterns remain unchanged after each cleaning
- All channels missing at once
- Issues caused by print head dryness or wear
- Ink starvation unrelated to individual channels
- If all channels are missing, consult other troubleshooting guides or contact a DTF Station technician
- Dampers on the same print head are interrelated
- A missing cyan channel may be caused by magenta or black damper pressure
- Missing black on the far right or white on the far left may indicate capping station misalignment
- Verify the capping station is centered before testing dampers
- Never grip a damper by the belly or transparent membrane
- Always hold dampers by the outer plastic frame only
- Squeezing the belly will cause ink spillage and internal damage
- Do not press down on the carriage
- Pressing downward can alter carriage height
- Handle print head ribbon cables with extreme care
- Do not pinch, pull, or bend cables forcefully
- If cable damage is visible, photograph it and contact DTF Station before continuing
- Place paper towels around the printer bed
- Cover areas near the print head and cable connections
- This prevents ink from spreading during damper removal
- Inserting the syringe damages the internal gasket
- Aim to pull at least 5 ml of ink
- The damper belly should compress under suction
- Proper damper: airtight pressure with smooth ink flow
- Faulty damper: foamy ink, excessive air, or no belly compression
- Some air inside the damper is normal and required for ink flow
- Do not attempt to remove all air
- Pushing too hard can affect print head height
- Both white dampers are connected to the same ink system
- If both white dampers are not airtight, the issue may not be the dampers
- Record video evidence and contact DTF Station before replacing
- Use scissors to slide the tube outward if needed
- Cut close to the damper edge to preserve tube length
- Inspect tube end for wear
- Trim the tube cleanly and straight if needed
- Uneven cuts can introduce air leaks
- Tube extensions are included if extra length is needed
- New dampers can be defective
- Always test before reinstalling
- Any ink leaking from the damper indicates gasket wear
- Even minor leaks justify replacement
- Wipe the gasket area and retest to confirm
- If the print head was exposed for over 30 minutes, ink fill may take up to 30 seconds
- If nozzle pattern is 90% or better, resume printing
- If not, perform additional head cleanings or ink fills as needed
- Monitor prints closely after damper replacement
- Contact DTF Station if issues persist
