Overview and Preparation

  1. Turn the printer off.
  2. Move the waste tank to the side.
  3. Remove all screws securing the rear panel.
  4. Remove the rear panel.
  5. Clip the white ink line.

Move Carriage to Service Position

  1. Open the front cover.
  2. Open the bottom panel to expose the knob.
  3. Rotate and hold the knob counterclockwise.
  4. With your free hand, move the carriage to the center of the printer bed.

Remove Carriage Cover

  1. Using a Phillips screwdriver, loosen the three screws on the carriage cover.
  2. Loosen the two screws on the right side of the cover.
  3. Completely remove the third screw on the right side.
  4. Remove the carriage cover.
  5. Identify the ink diverter.
  6. Put on gloves before continuing.

Document and Disconnect Carriage Components

  1. Take a clear picture of all carriage cables for reference.
  2. Remove the three screws securing the carriage board.
  3. Carefully pull out the ribbon cables without wiggling.
  4. Remove the fourth screw to fully release the carriage board.
  5. Remove the four connected cables.
  6. Remove the remaining two ribbon cables using the same straight-pull technique.
  7. Tape all disconnected cables to the sides of the carriage to keep them out of the way.

Remove Panels and Prepare for Ink Handling

  1. Remove the two screws securing the panel and remove the panel.
  2. Remove the two screws securing the bracket and remove the bracket.
  3. Lock all ink clips one by one.
  4. Lay a large amount of paper towels around the work area to catch ink.

Release Ink Diverter

  1. Locate and remove the two screws securing the ink diverter.
  2. Place additional paper towels underneath the diverter.
  3. Place a paper towel over the top of the carriage to protect electrical components.
  4. Tape the paper towel in place to prevent movement.

Disconnect Ink Tubes

What you need

  • Hold the left nozzle to prevent pressure loss
  • Ink will spill if both tubes are disconnected without blocking a nozzle
  1. Using scissors, slowly pull the left ink tube off the diverter.
  2. Once loosened, remove the left tube completely.
  3. Hold the left nozzle closed with one finger.
  4. Slowly remove the right ink tube using the same technique.

Drain the Ink Diverter

  1. Use a cup or bowl to drain ink from the diverter.
  2. Remove the top paper towel.
  3. Unplug the two white dampers.
  4. Carefully pull the tubes upward to create working space.
  5. Replace the paper towel over the carriage.

Remove Remaining Tubes and Install New Diverter

What you need

  • All tubes must be fully seated
  • No loose tube connections
  1. Remove the bottom two ink tubes.
  2. Take the replacement ink diverter.
  3. Begin reconnecting all ink tubes to the new diverter.
  4. Push each tube fully until flush against the diverter.

Tube Fit Adjustment Tips

What you need

  • If a tube feels loose, cut the end straight for a snug fit
  • If difficult to install, soak tube ends in hot water for a few minutes

Reinstall Ink Diverter and Components

  1. Clean any spilled ink.
  2. Remove the top paper towel.
  3. Lower the white ink tubes back into position.
  4. Secure the ink diverter with the two screws.
  5. Plug the two white dampers back in.
  6. Position the bracket over the ink tubes.
  7. Secure the bracket with two screws.

Reassemble Carriage Assembly

  1. Position the base plate carefully, ensuring no cables are pinched.
  2. Secure the base plate with two screws.
  3. Reinstall the carriage board.
  4. Secure the carriage board with four screws.
  5. Begin reconnecting all cables using reference photos.
  6. Align ribbon cable teeth with ports.
  7. Press straight down with even pressure to seat ribbon cables.
  8. Plug in all remaining cables.

Final Cleanup and Reassembly

  1. Remove all paper towels from the printer.
  2. Unlock all ink tubes.
  3. Unlock the white ink tube at the back of the printer.
  4. Reinstall the rear panel and secure it with screws.
  5. Reinstall the carriage cover and secure it with screws.
