What you need
- Ink should flow to the waste tank
- Pump should be audible
- If no ink flow and no pump sound are present, proceed with pump replacement
- Turn the printer on.
- Press Menu on the control panel.
- Go to Head Maintenance.
- Select Fill Ink.
- Press Enter on one head to start fill ink.
- Open the front panel.
- Observe the waste ink tube during fill ink.
- Listen for the pump running.
- Press Cancel to stop the fill ink process.
Required Tools and Supplies
What you need
- Lint-free cloth
- Phillips screwdriver
- Replacement capping station pump
- Scissors
- Gloves
- Open the front cover.
- If media is loaded, press and hold the Up arrow key to remove it from the printer bed.
- Press and hold the Left arrow key until the carriage moves to the left.
- Turn the printer off.
Access the Capping Station
- Remove the first two screws from the front metal cover.
- Remove the second set of two screws.
- Remove the metal cover to expose the capping station.
- Open the side panel.
- Locate the capping station pump.
- From the opposite side of the pump, remove the four mounting screws.
- Place paper towels underneath the pump to catch ink.
- Take a clear picture of the ink tube routing.
- Identify the left tube routing to the back of the printer.
- Identify the right tube routing to the front of the printer.
- Using scissors, cut both ink tubes straight across as close to the pump nozzles as possible.
- Go to the back of the printer.
- Move the waste tank to the side.
- Remove seven screws to open the back panel.
- Locate the pump cable connector using the label for identification.
- Press down on the connector notch.
- Pull the connector apart to unplug it.
- Remove the old capping station pump completely.
Install the New Capping Station Pump
What you need
- Left tube routes to back of printer
- Right tube routes to front of printer
- Tubes are fully seated and flush
- Bring in the new pump.
- Route the pump cable through to the back of the printer.
- Connect the pump cable securely.
- Plug both ink tubes onto the pump.
- Reference the photo taken earlier to confirm correct tube placement.
- Push each tube fully onto the pump until flush.
What you need
- If tubes are difficult to install, soak tube ends in hot water for a few minutes to soften them
Secure the Pump and Reassemble
- Remove paper towels from the capping station area.
- Secure the pump to the printer using four screws.
- Reinstall the metal cover over the capping station.
- Secure the cover with four screws.
What you need
- Ink flows correctly
- Pump is audible
- Pump operation is confirmed
- Turn the printer on.
- Wait for the printer status to show Idle.
- Perform a fill ink procedure as done earlier.
- Confirm ink is flowing to the waste tank.
- Immediately press Cancel to stop the fill ink.
Final Reassembly
- Close the side panel.
- Close the back panel.
- Secure the back panel with seven screws.
- Return the waste tank to its original position.
