00:00:32 – Access the belt system
What you need
- The carriage stops moving mid-print
- Open the top cover.
- Open both side panels.
- On the right side of the printer, locate the X motor belt system. 00:01:09 – Lower the capping station and center the carriage
- Open the front panel.
- Rotate the knob counterclockwise until the capping station is fully lowered.
- Manually move the printer carriage to the center of the bed. 00:01:45 – Loosen left-side gear tension
- Move to the left side of the printer.
- Locate the two bolts holding the belt gear in place.
- Loosen both bolts by rotating counterclockwise. 00:02:17 – Remove the gear assembly (right side)
- Return to the right side of the printer.
- Identify the two gears: Top gear: X motor belt
- Locate the black bracket at the top of the gear assembly.
- Do not touch the center screw.
- Remove only the two outer screws.
- Optional: Apply masking tape to mark the bracket’s original position.
- Remove the bracket.
- Repeat the same process for the bottom bracket. 00:02:56 – Remove the carriage cover and detach the belt
- Remove two screws on each side of the carriage cover.
- Remove two screws on the front.
- Remove the carriage cover.
- On the right side of the carriage, locate the belt bracket.
- Remove the two screws securing the belt to the carriage.
- The belt will now be loose. 00:03:35 – Loosen the X motor and remove the old belt
- On the right side, locate the four bolts holding the X motor.
- Loosen all four bolts to allow motor movement.
- Carefully remove the gear assembly.
- Remove the old X motor drive belt. 00:04:09 – Install the new drive belt
- Place the new drive belt onto the bottom gear.
- Place the X motor belt onto the top gear.
- Seat the bottom belt onto the X motor.
- Slowly reinstall the gear assembly into position. 00:04:47 – Attach the belt to the carriage
- Locate the imprint on the belt.
- Align the imprint with the edge of the carriage bracket.
- Ensure the belt teeth align with the bracket teeth.
- Secure the belt using the two screws. 00:05:23 – Set X motor tension
- Locate the imprint marks on the motor mounting panel.
- Pull the motor left to match the original bolt position marks.
- Ensure the two end bolts are straight.
- Tighten all four motor bolts. 00:05:57 – Reinstall and align the gear assembly
- Reinstall the top bracket using the two outer screws.
- Ensure the center screw aligns with the gear center.
- Repeat for the bottom bracket.
- Move to the left side of the printer.
- Tighten both gear bolts the same number of turns used during loosening.
- Check that the gear pole is perfectly vertical. 00:06:31 – Check belt tension and alignment
- Gently pull the belt from its resting position.
- Adjust both bolts evenly while keeping the gear straight.
- Move to the right side and manually slide the carriage left and right. Final steps
- Reinstall the carriage cover using six screws.
- Close both side panels.
- Close the top cover. The X motor drive belt replacement is now complete.
- White and color layers are misaligned
- You hear a knocking sound as the carriage moves left to right
- Top belt: X motor belt
- Bottom belt: X motor drive belt (the belt being replaced)
- Do not remove the bolts.
- Count the number of rotations for each bolt.
- Loosen both bolts the same number of times.
- Bottom gear: X motor drive belt
- If crooked, adjust the appropriate bolt to straighten it.
- Correct tension: ~½ inch of movement
- Less than ½ inch: too tight
- More than ½ inch: too loose
- Both belts should remain at an even height.
- If the X motor belt moves vertically, adjust the left-side gear.
- If the drive belt moves vertically, adjust the X motor alignment.
