DESCRIPTION This guide explains how to identify, test, and replace a bad damper on a Prestige L2 DTF printer. A faulty damper commonly causes ink starvation, slow line charging, or persistent air bubbles.

How to Identify a Bad Damper

INDICATORS

  • During initial setup or manual pull, one ink line fills much slower than the others.
  • One ink line does not pull ink at all.
  • Example shown: Magenta line lagging significantly behind other colors.

Step 1 – Remove and Spot Test the Damper

  1. Carefully remove the damper from the printhead.
  2. Hold the damper ONLY by the hard plastic top and bottom.
  3. Insert a syringe into the damper outlet.
  4. Slowly pull ink using the syringe. RESULT CHECK
  • Do NOT squeeze or hold the soft side walls.
  • GOOD DAMPER:
  • Ink fills smoothly.
  • No bubbles form during active pulling.
  • BAD DAMPER:
  • Bubbles consistently appear while pulling.
  • Indicates an air leak.

Step 2 – Prepare for Damper Replacement

  1. Place paper towels under and around the carriage area.
  2. Clamp the ink line feeding the bad damper to stop ink flow.

Step 3 – Remove the Bad Damper

  1. Using clean clippers, cut the ink tube as close to the damper as possible.
  2. Ensure the cut is: Straight IMPORTANT NOTES
  • Clean
  • Not angled
  • An uneven or angled cut can cause a new air leak.
  • Use sharp clippers designed for tubing.

Step 4 – Install the New Damper

  1. Prepare the new damper.
  2. Either: Hold it by the hard plastic points, or
  3. Firmly push the ink tube fully onto the damper connector.
  4. Ensure the tube is fully seated and flush.
  5. Unclamp the ink line.
  • Seat it into the printhead first for stability.

Step 5 – Prime the New Damper

  1. Insert a syringe into the new damper.
  2. Pull ink until: The damper is fully filled.
  3. Watch closely for bubbles. RESULT CHECK
  • Ink enters the syringe.
  • No bubbles = damper installed correctly.

Step 6 – Reinstall Damper into Printhead

  1. Place the primed damper back into its correct slot on the printhead.

Step 7 – Manual Pull to Fully Prime the Line

  1. Open the right-side panel of the printer.
  2. Locate the two circulation connections: Top = White ink
  3. Since a color damper was replaced, use the color channel.
  4. Place paper towels under the connection area.
  5. Confirm: Printhead is docked on the capping station.
  6. Disconnect the color line by rotating counterclockwise.
  7. Attach the syringe to the bottom line.
  8. Pull approximately 60 mL of ink: Pull and hold to allow ink flow.
  • Bottom = Color inks
  • Ink bottle lids are loosened (tighten fully, then open ¼ turn).
  • Empty syringe and repeat until ~60 mL is pulled.

Step 8 – Reconnect the Line

  1. Keep the bottom line stationary.
  2. Rotate the top line clockwise to secure the connection.
  3. Verify the line rests straight with no twists.
  • Bad damper successfully replaced.
  • Ink line fully primed.
  • Air leaks eliminated.
  • Printer ready for nozzle check and operation.
