Image Presto turns flat artwork into the spot channel file the Lumen S24F prints its raised textures from. This walks through the whole Spot Channel Editor, from loading artwork to exporting the file NeoStampa prints.

Written steps15

Open the Spot Channel Editor

Watch this part0:16
  1. From the Image Presto homepage, click Launch App, then open the Spot Channel Editor.
  2. Your channels live in the sidebar on the left. Sidebar Size, at the bottom, switches it between small, medium and large.

Load your artwork

Watch this part0:36
  1. Drag your artwork in, or click to choose a file.
  2. The image opens fully selected, because Full Image is the default selection mode.

Select an area with the Wand

Watch this part0:48
  1. Switch the selection mode to Wand, and zoom in for a closer look.
  2. This design reads "Take the step." The last word, "step", gets a raised texture.
  3. With Wand selected, look at Match By. It tells the Wand how to compare colors: Vector suits flat art with solid colors, Raster suits shaded or photographic art like this design.
  4. Click the letter S. It is selected with Twill Weave as the starting texture.

Choose a relief style

Watch this part1:43
  1. Open the Relief Style list to choose a different texture. There are dozens to choose from, including wood grain patterns.
  2. Pick Cathedral Grain, and raise the Scale a little so the texture is easier to see.

Rotate and position the texture

Watch this part2:02
  1. Under Direction & Position, rotate the pattern by spinning the compass dial or dragging the slider.
  2. Click Move on Canvas to drag the texture anywhere inside the selection.

Finish the selection

Watch this part2:32
  1. Click the T, then the E, then the P. The whole word "step" now has the wood grain texture.

Generate and check the result

Watch this part2:54
  1. Zoom out and click Generate All. A moment later the production output appears.
  2. Switch to 3D Relief to check the depth, then go back to the editor.
  3. One purple part of the T was missed. Click it to add it to the selection, then regenerate to confirm. Now the whole word is covered.

Add a second channel

Watch this part3:35
  1. Click Edit Masks to keep working.
  2. Add a second channel to texture the word "the". The new channel is named W2 by default.
  3. Set its selection mode to Wand.
  4. Rename the channel V1, for varnish.
  • Channel names must be exactly W1, W2, V1 or V2. Any other name will not print white or varnish on the Lumen S24F.

Switch between channels

Watch this part4:17
  1. The tabs at the top show which channel you are working on. To switch, click a tab or click the channel card in the sidebar.
  2. Click W1 and the canvas previews the W1 channel. Scroll down and click V1 to work on it.

Texture the second word

Watch this part4:43
  1. For the relief style, pick Zigzag.
  2. Click the T, the H and the E. The default tolerance works well for these letters.
  3. Raise the Tolerance to select more, or lower it to select less.
  4. Rotate the texture a little with the compass, then click Regenerate.

Review each channel

Watch this part5:54
  1. Here is the combined output. You can also view each channel on its own: this is W1, and this is V1.
  2. On V1 the zigzag looks a little dense, and in the combined output it is hard to see.

Adjust the scale and regenerate

Watch this part6:14
  1. Go back to Edit Masks and make sure V1 is selected.
  2. Raise the Scale to make the pattern larger, then click Regenerate. The V1 scale has changed.
  3. Open 3D Relief to compare V1 on its own with the combined output, where both words are raised.

Export the file

Watch this part6:52
  1. When it looks right, click Multi-Channel TIFF to export. That file imports straight into NeoStampa.

Fix a selection with the eraser

Watch this part7:04
  1. Delete the current image and open one of the example templates.
  2. This template is flat vector art, so set Match By to Vector.
  3. Click the body of the rocket, then the star. Both get the default Twill Weave texture.
  4. Say the star was a mistake. Undo removes your most recent selection, but if you have made other changes since, Undo would remove those first. Use the eraser instead.
  5. The eraser sits at the top of the canvas. The default brush is 48 pixels at 100% hardness.
  6. Brush over the star to erase it. The star is gone, and the rocket body stays selected.

Select an object with AI

Watch this part8:27
  1. Set the selection mode to AI and zoom in on the rocket.
  2. Click two or three points on the object you want, then type a hint in the text box. Here, "rocket".
  3. Apply the points. The AI finds the whole rocket from those points.
  4. AI selection works well on single objects, like a face or a person in a photo, where the Wand would struggle.
  5. To leave out the flame, use the eraser.
  6. Now only the rocket is selected. Click Generate All, and the selection is ready to export to NeoStampa.
